I love this type of hat! My mom use to make these for us kids when we were younger. After reading the written pattern, I have to agree with everyone below about the brim. The pattern just doesn't sound right for it. After crocheting for years now and I have tons of other hat patterns, I'll have to use one that will work and look great on this one. Thank you so much for sharing this free crochet pattern.

that brim is just weird --should have some kind of shaping to round it off at the front. I doubled the yarn to try to give it some stiffness, but it's still just a floppy square stuck on the front of the hat. I'll have to see if I can find another pattern with a brim to cobble the two patterns together. (

Needs clarification on sewing the brim. Do you fold in half and sew to the hat?would love to see a picture of the how to.

Needs clarification on where to sew the brim. Do you just fold in half and sew to the hat. Other than that simple pattern.

I would leave it "as is." No embellishment. Bring back yesteryear. A true newsboy hat would have no adornment.

I have not made this hat (yet), but I would use wool yarn and felt it.

that's a great idea! I'm going to try it. thanks!
