What abbreviations is "leg"?

I believe what was being referred to as leg would be the same as "step". A single crochet has 2 steps or legs: 1st step is insert hook in stitch and pull up loop, 2nd step or leg is yarn over and pull through 2 loops. Completion of the 2nd step or leg leaves the appearance of a chain.
